Andromeda, the nearest large galaxy to our own, is around 140,000 light years across, and located 2.5 million light years away in the constellation of the same name. The data for this image is from the Subaru Telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope, the Local Group Survey (hydrogen alpha), the Mayall 4M Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory, and the Digitized Sky Survey.
