Description
Anchor rope in a harbour. This Royal Dutch Navy ship was part of the SAIL Amsterdam event which exhibits many tall ships. It is the biggest event in Amsterdam and is held every five years. These sailing ships were historically the primary means of transportation across long distances of water before steamboats took over. They were used to carry cargo, passengers, mail, supplies and military purposes. Photographed in IJhaven (IJ harbour), Amsterdam, Netherlands.
