Description
Amputation equipment dating from early nineteenth century England. Amputation procedures involve the surgical removal of diseased limbs due to infection or trauma. They were common procedures in the this era before the introduction of antibiotics and more refined surgical techniques. The set includes a Liston knife (for rapidly cutting through soft tissues surrounding the bone), and a leg saw (for severing the bone). Both knives are complete with ebony handles.
