Amazon Basin Settlements. Satellite image of part of the Amazon Basin, at the border between Brazil and Bolivia. North is at top. Dense forest is dark green. The Amazon forest is still relatively undeveloped, but concern has been raised regarding the environmental impact of deforestation and growth of settlements and farmland. These (centre left & right) are seen as geometric patterns. Photographed on 27 July 2000.
