Description
Airport control tower. Historical artwork of the control tower at Croydon airport, England, in 1928. A biplane is seen at bottom. A cross-section of the building shows the control room (upper centre), sleeping rooms for night duty staff (centre) and a meteorological office (lower centre). A mast and aerials for receiving radio communications from aircraft in flight are seen on the tower's roof. The central mast is topped by red lamps and a wind vane. Taken from Illustrated London News, 1928.
