Manhattan Project. An aerial view of the Los Alamos site, seen during the late stages of the development of the first atomic bomb. Seen here is the Pajarito Plateau, with research buildings at bottom centre and left of centre, and accomodation at lower left. Just left of centre may be seen the Los Alamos runway. This image clearly shows the difficult terrain across which much heavy equipment had to be delivered from factories elsewhere in the USA.
