Met Office communications. Met Office workers processing incoming and outgoing weather reports. The assistant in the background is the scrutineer who examines all incoming messages. Teleprinter traffic is carried on the conveyor belt in the channel in front of the two assistants in the foreground. These assistants are preparing reports for outward transmission. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. A variety of communication methods have been used during its history. Teleprinters were mostly used in the mid-20th century.
