Description
Grass snake (Natrix natrix) flicking its tongue to sense its surroundings. This non-venomous reptile is common and widespread across Europe, but is absent from Ireland, the Balearics, Malta and Crete. It is often found near water where it feeds primarily on frogs and toads, but may take newts and fish, being able to swim and hunt in water. Photographed in April, in Dorset, UK.
