Artist's Description
Illustration of the Chandipura virus (CHPV) structure. CHPV is responsible for causing an illness with symptoms similar to influenza and can lead to acute encephalitis, often resulting in coma and death. CHPV has a rod-shaped structure, which is a defining characteristic of the Rhabdoviridae family. The outer envelope of the virus consists of glycoproteins (red) and a lipid bilayer membrane (yellow) derived from the host. The viral RNA and the envelope are connected by matrix proteins (blue). The genome of the virus is a single-stranded RNA with a negative helical turn. The ribonucleoprotein core contains RNA polymerase (yellow) among other proteins.
