Artist's Description

Polar bear (Ursus maritimus) mother and cub. This bear, the world's largest land predator, is found throughout the Arctic circumpolar regions, although its range is limited by the extent of the pack ice. The cub will stay with its mother for between a year and a half and two and a half years. This cub was born during the winter in a snow-covered den from which it has recently emerged. Photographed in March in Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada.
