Description
Met Office communications. Met Office workers monitoring rows of teleprinters bringing hourly coded weather reports from over 500 reporting stations scattered over the British Isles and north-western Europe. Each machine also has a perforator, which automatically punches the information on a paper tape. These tapes are collected and used for automatic re-broadcast by wireless. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. A variety of communication methods have been used during its history. Tape-fed teleprinters were mostly used in the mid-20th century.
