Artist's Description

Polarised light micrograph of crystals of citric acid, now known as tricarboxylic acid. Citric acid can be obtained from natural products such as the juices of citric fruits eg. lemons. It is also obtained by fermentation of glucose (citric acid cycle) and by synthesis. Horizontal object size 1.2 mm.
