Blood spatter analysis. Bloodstain on a surface surrounded by scale bars. The shapes of bloodstains are analysed to determine the speed the blood travelled and the direction from which it travelled. This stain is an example of an arterial spurt, often the result of injury to a a victim's artery. When compared with the anatomical location of the injury, bloodstains may provide information about the victim's position when the injury was inflicted and any subsequent movement by the injured party.
