Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan in coronal view through the brain of a 64 year old patient, showing evidence of Alzheimer's disease (dementia). Shrinkage of brain tissue has made the temporal lobes (at upper frame) appear to have horns, the ventricular spaces (at centre) have increased, and there is bilateral atrophy (shrinkage) of the hippocampus (lower centre left and right).
