Description
Abrasion marks on a Martian rock. Coloured image of marks left by the Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT) on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit. The rover has drilled into this rock, named Uchben, in order to expose enough of it to be able to use its miniature thermal emission spectrometer. The spectrometer enables it to analyse the composition of rocks. Photographed in October 2004.
