Prehistoric stone tools. 19th-century artwork of flint stone tools from the valley of the Somme, France. These were described in a paper by British archaeologist and geologist John Evans (1823-1908) on the occurrence of flint implements in undisturbed beds of gravel, sand, and clay. Published in Volume 38, Issue 2 (1861) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
