Description
Man donating blood platelets (blood clotting components) in an apheresis clinic. His arm is covered so that the needle is hidden from view. The phlebotomist is preparing labels for the blood samples in the vacutainers at lower centre, which will be used to test for blood type and blood-borne diseases. Apheresis is the process by which blood from the donor is separated into its components by an apheresis machine (centre). Platelets and plasma are retained while the rest of the blood is returned to the donor. Photographed at the Crozatier Center in Saint-Antoine Hospital, Paris.
