Description
Hurricane damage. Workmen repairing the roof of a house in Loxley, Alabama, USA, damaged by trees uprooted by Hurricane Ivan. Ivan hit land near Gulf Shores, Alabama (32 kilometres from Loxley) in the early hours of 16 September 2004. At the time it hit, it was classified as a category 4 hurricane, with winds of 210 kilometres per hour. The winds killed 25 people, destroyed buildings, brought down power lines and spawned tornadoes. Ivan continued inland, weakening to a tropical depression in north-east Alabama.
