Vitamin C crystals, polarised light micrograph. Vitamin C is obtained from fresh fruit, especially the citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges. It is required to maintain healthy connective tissue and heal wounds. As an antioxidant, it may protect against viruses and cancer-causing substances. Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
