Description
Wind farm. View of some of the 103, 35m high turbines forming a wind farm near Newtown, Wales. It became fully operational in January 1993 and represents the largest wind farm in Europe. It has a capacity of 30.9 megawatts which is approximately equivalent to the electricity requirements of the county (21,600 homes) in which it is situated. The projected lifetime of the plant is 25 years in which time it will prevent the release of more than 2,678,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which would otherwise be formed by conventional fossil-fuelled power stations.
