Saturn, Cassini image. The planet is casting a shadow on its rings, which consist of particles of nearly pure water ice and meteoric dust and span almost 300,000 kilometres. This image was taken with the wide-angle camera on board the Cassini spacecraft. It was obtained at a distance of approximately 1.1 million kilometres from Saturn, on 9th May 2007.
