Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of a patient in intensive care that has had a tracheostomy, or tracheotomy, to attach them to a ventilator. This form of intubation establishes a new airway for a patient whose normal airway has been obstructed or damaged. The tracheostomy tube is inserted through an incision made in the trachea through the neck. This tube is connected to a ventilator.
