Description
Mongolian astrology. 19th-century charts and diagrams used by Mongolian astrologers to predict the right time for a journey. Advice included reciting Buddhist prayers, making offerings, performing ritual exorcism, or wearing amulet charms. The numbers on the charts and figures are used for divination. The figure at left shows a spiritual battle against internal obstacles (the 'three poisons'). The tridents represent the three energy centres of the human body, and their three prongs represent the lunar, solar and central channels used to destroy these poisons. This manuscript follows the Tibetan Kalachakra Tantra tradition, dating from 1024.
