Description
Dissection caricature. Caricature from 1751 of a dissection lesson. The cadaver (at centre) is an executed criminal with a noose still around his neck. The cadaver is being disembowelled by a 'cutter'. At bottom left the bones of previous cadavers are being boiled to make glue. At bottom centre a dog is eating the cadaver's discarded heart. At bottom right a man is unsuccessfully trying to collect the cadaver's entrails in a bucket. At upper centre the lecturer is giving his talk and pointing at various features with a pointer. The medical students (at upper right and upper left) are not paying much attention, though, and are talking amongst themselves.
