Description
1833 Outbreak of Cholera. Microscopic cartoon view. Lithograph Published 1842, Paris for Scenes de la vie privee et publique des animaux" by Jean Ignace Isidore Gerard (J. J. Grandville Pseud). The second cholera pandemic of 1829-1849 is believed to have caused more deaths more quickly than any other epidemic in the 19th Century. The micro-organism that causes it Choler vibrio is here represented as a killer among microbes. The intravenous saline drip was developed for its treatment around this time. British colonisation was blamed by some for spreading the disease worldwide."
