Description
Lobar pneumonia in the stage of grey hepatisation, or late consolidation, computer illustration and light micrograph. This stage is the third stage of the classical inflammatory response in lobar pneumonia that is left untreated. It is the progression of red hepatisation, and is characterised by the grey appearance of the lung with liver-like consistency due to fibrinopurulent exudate, progressive disintegration of erythrocytes, and hemosiderin. Light micrograph shows fibrinopurulent exudate and organization.
