Landfill gas recovery well. A well in St. Clair County's Smith's Creek Landfill sitecollecting methane gas produced by decaying solid waste underground. The gas will be used to generate electricity for distribution to homes. The system prevents much of the methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, from escaping into the atmosphere.
