Artist's Description
DNA editing, conceptual illustration. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the genetic material that controls the growth and development of all living organisms. The glowing coloured area at centre represents the insertion of new material into the DNA double helix. The genetic code is formed by the order of nucleotide bases along this helix, and inserting or editing this genetic code produces changes in an organism. A variety of techniques have been developed to edit DNA, including the use of the CRISPR-Cas9 protein.
