Description
Met Office communications. Met Office worker making notes next to a Mufax machine, an early type of fax (facsimile) machine designed to send and receive weather charts. Transmission was via a signal that carried the information needed to print a duplicate copy of the original chart. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. A variety of communication methods have been used during its history, and fax machines like these were developed during the 1960s. Photographed in Bracknell, at the Met Office headquarters which opened in 1962.
