Description
Winthrop John Van Leuven Osterhout (1871-1964), US botanist. Osterhout is best known for his work on active transport of ions across plant cell membranes. He founded the 'Journal of General Physiology' in 1918, editing it for some 45 years. Photographed in 1952.
