Description
William Osler at Johns Hopkins, 1900s. Canadian physician William Osler (1849-1919) questioning a student at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA. On the blackboard are lists of the year's pneumonia and typhoid cases. Osler began his career at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, before becoming the first professor of medicine (1889) at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In 1905 he became a professor at Oxford University, UK. Considered the father of modern medicine, he contributed towards reforms of medical education, founding the practice of residency where medical students received training in hospitals. Photographed in 1902 or 1903.
