Description
Tropical storm. Fisherman struggling to secure his fishing boat during a tropical storm or cyclone. Water is washing over the quay. Tropical storms form when there is large scale evaporation and convection over areas of warm sea surface, typically during the late summer months. Dense clouds bring violent thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds. This is tropical storm 'Isidore', which reached the Louisiana and Mississippi coast of the USA on 26 September, 2002, bringing winds in excess of 100 kilometres per hour. A storm surge of 1.5 metres caused coastal flooding, and some waves reached heights of 6 metres. This photograph was taken in Gulfport, Mississippi.
