The National Mall. Satellite image of the area around the western end of the National Mall, an area of monuments in Washington DC, USA. At lower left is the Potomac River. The area seen runs from the Abraham Lincoln Memorial (left), and past the Washington Monument (centre right). Above this, at upper right, is the White House. The Potomac Tidal Basin is at lower centre. The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is on the lower right shore of this tidal basin. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite on 14 May 2004, a few weeks after the newest memorial opened on 29 April: the World War II Memorial (at centre).
