The Alps (white) are a major European mountain range extending from France (southwest) across northern Italy (centre), through Switzerland (top) to Austria (northeast). The Baltic countries are at right. The sea at right is the Adriatic Sea and the sea at left is the Tyrrhenian Sea. Image obtained by the TERRA satellite on March 13th 2007.
