Description
Stent in aortic dissection. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiogram of a stent (white mesh, upper centre) that has been implanted following surgical repair of a dissecting aorta. The patient is a 40-year-old man with Marfan syndrome. The stent is at the level between the heart and the kidneys. An aortic dissection is where the walls the the aorta (the body's main artery) are forced apart, requiring repair and strengthening with an implant such as this stent. The weakening of the artery wall was due to Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder that weakens the body's connective tissue.
