Artist's Description
Spring stars and light pollution. View of the night sky in the countryside, showing how light pollution obscures the stars. This view is of spring stars in the Northern Hemisphere, and was taken with a 180-second exposure. In the countryside, nearby city lights hide many stars, and only some are visible through the reflected glow. More stars are visible when viewed from less inhabited areas such as from the mountains. For a sequence showing the effects of varying levels of light pollution over the year and in different locations, see images C025/1412 to C025/1423.
