Description
Spanish moon moth (Graelisia isabellae) on a plant. The eyespots on its wings act as a mimicry device, resembling the eyes of a larger animal. The moth startles predators by suddenly flashing its wings open and revealing the eyspots, which are normally hidden when the wings are closed. The Spanish moon moth is a rare and protected species of moth, living in pine forests in parts of Spain and the French Alps.
