Description
Soldier beetles (Rhagonycha fulva) mating on a flowerhead of parsley (Petroselinum crispum). These beetles are attracted to the flat flowerheads of umbelliferous plants (such as this one), where they feed on other small insects (some seen here), as well as using the site as a mating platform. The bright red colour of the solider beetle makes them very conspicuous, but the colour is to warn birds that thee have an unpleasant taste.
