Description
MODEL RELEASED. Hospital pathology laboratory scientist preparing sections of human bone for microscopic examination. The thin, undecalcified, resin- embedded sections are essential in the diagnosis of a range of metabolic bone diseases including osteomalacia (rickets), osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) and Paget's disease of bone. This view shows the cutting gear at far right, which shaves a small block of resin- embedded bone into slices 7 microns thick - some slivers of bony debris are seen. In centre is the control equipment, with some stained & mounted glass slides resting on top. Model: Julie Wilks
