Wind dispersal of pollen from male flowers of the silver birch tree Betula pendula. The picture shows a shower of pollen falling from the catkins in a light wind. The silver birch is a very widespread tree which grows on poor soils. It is often used as cover for the growth of young forest trees in plantations.
