Ohio and Erie Canal. Lock on the historic Ohio and Erie Canal in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio, USA. Cuyahoga is the only national park in Ohio. The Ohio and Erie Canal was constructed in the 1820s and early 1830s and carried freight from 1827 to 1861. Between 1862 and 1913 it served as a water source but was abandoned in 1913 after much of it was severely flooded.
