Nanoparticles in glioma cancer cells. Fluorescent light micrograph of nanoparticles (green) being used to deliver drugs to cancer cells (cyan). Water-insoluble compounds such as curcumin can be difficult to deliver to cells. By conjugating curcumin to these dendritic nanoparticles, it was possible to deliver this therapeutic compound to the cytoplasm and nuclei (blue) of human malignant glioma cells. Gliomas are a type of cancer affecting brain and spinal cord tissue. This image was created in 2017, as part of research carried out at Henry Ford Hospital, USA.
