Description
Computer graphics representation of the structure of zeolite-Y (Faujasite), a mineral of fundamental importance in the refining of petroleum. Zeolite-Y forms the basis of the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking process (FCC), where large molecules from oil are fragmented into smaller, stable hydrocarbons such as gasoline, kerosene & gas oils. In this image, silicon & aluminium atoms are shown in yellow and oxygen atoms in red. This image was produced using BIOSYM software.
