Description
Houses of Parliament, City of Westminster, London, UK. This view looks west. Also known as the Palace of Westminster, these buildings on the bank of the River Thames are the seat of the UK government. The tower at right is the clock tower (96 metres tall) that houses the bell Big Ben. Cleaning of the tower's clock face is taking place at upper right. The buildings and towers seen here were constructed over 30 years from 1840. They were built in the Gothic Revival style to designs by the architects Charles Barry and Augustus Pugin. The tops of the towers of Westminster Abbey are visible at left behind the Palace. Photographed on 19 August 2014.
