Description
Homo erectus footprint. This 1.5 million year old footprint was found near Ileret, Kenya. It belonged to H. erectus, the most widespread of the hominids (with the exception of modern humans). The footprints show that H. erectus walked upright and with heel-to-toe weight transfer similar to that of modern humans. They show modern human features, including a pronounced arch, and small toes with the big toe parallel to the other toes. H. erectus lived between 1.6 and 0.3 million years ago.
