Helitorch. A helicopter equipped with a burning ignition device, known as a helitorch, deliberately sets an area of forest on fire. Firefighters use the helitorch in areas that are difficult to reach on foot. The aim is to clear an area of land of combustible material, known as a firebreak, in order to halt the progress of the main forest fire. Photographed in 2001 at Mount Zirkel Wilderness, Colorado, USA.
