Artist's Description

Excavated prehistoric tools. Different types of flint flakes that were found at the archaeological site La Pineta. Flints were palaeolithic (Stone Age) tools that were used by hominids (human ancestors) for a variety of tasks, including butchering animals, cutting wood and hunting. The oldest part of La Pineta found so far (as of 2008) is believed to date back to 600, This is before modern man (Homo sapiens) existed. La Pineta is located near Isernia, in the Molise region of southern Italy.
