Earth's location in the universe, illustration. Series of eight images showing the Earth's location in relation to the scale of the universe. At top left is the Earth (12,756 kilometres across). This is followed (left to right) by the solar system (around 287 billion kilometres across), the local stellar neighbourhood (up to around 130 light years from the Sun), and the Milky Way galaxy (with a diameter of 100,000 light years). The bottom row, from bottom left, shows the Local Group of galaxies with a diameter of 10 million light years, moving up through the Virgo Supercluster (110 million light years across) and the local supercluster complex (the Pisces-Cetus Supercluster Complex which is a billion light years across), ending at bottom right with the observable universe which has a diameter of 27.4 billion light years.
