Dunes on Mars, satellite image. These dunes are in an area of Mars called Nili Patera, one of the most active dune fields on Mars. It is continuously monitored from orbiting satellites, with a new image acquired about every six weeks. This monitoring shows how winds vary seasonally and year-to-year. This image was obtained on 1 March 2014 by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) instrument on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) satellite.
