Description
Discovery launch rollout, 4 August 2009. Lightning strikes taking place during the rollout of Discovery (left) towards Launch Pad 39A (right) at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. Discovery left the Vehicle Assembly Building at 02:07 that day, taking nearly 12 hours to complete the journey carried on a crawler-transporter. The delay was due to the lightning. This rollout was for mission STS-128. The launch took place on 28 August 2009. Discovery was part of NASA's Space Shuttle program. It flew 39 missions over a period of 26 years, being retired from service in March 2011.
